Scandinavian armchairs: the queen of Nordic style

Nordic style armchairs: what are they?

Scandinavian armchairs are very popular in the interior design sector. They are characterised by a few essential elements like other Scandinavian style furniture: light colours, the presence of wood, minimal and clean lines.

Not only for furnishing houses in the mountains, the Scandinavian style is also popular for city flats and beach houses.

Let’s find out how to incorporate a Nordic-style armchair into our furniture and the trendy models.

Where did the Nordic style originate?

Before we venture into the discovery of Scandinavian design armchairs, let us understand what the Nordic style is, where it originated and why. The Nordic or Scandinavian style originated in Northern European countries, to counteract the hours of darkness that characterise the winter months in particular. In fact, it is not a question of pure aesthetics, but the Nordic style has a functional purpose: to make homes cosy in an environment characterised by a harsh climate.

The elements that cannot be lacking in a Nordic style décor are:

  • the prevalence of white: a few colours in neutral, light and natural tones. White is present in furniture, fabrics and on the walls.
  • the minimalist style: simple design, clean lines, few geometric patterns only. Few furnishings, without leaning against each other, with space between them.
  • the love of wood: strictly natural wood. Choose wooden tables, chairs, cupboards and even beds. Prefer woods typical of Nordic countries: oak, walnut, ash and birch. Other materials include stone, leather and warm natural fabrics, even rough ones such as fur.
  • lighting: Scandinavian-style homes should be as bright as possible.

Nordic design armchairs: the trendy models

In living rooms, bedrooms and even kitchens, Scandinavian armchairs or Nordic-style armchairs are becoming increasingly popular. The Scandinavian armchair is the must-have piece of furniture in a modern Nordic-style living room, in addition to the sofa.

Like the Nordic style chairs, the Scandinavian design armchair has a structure with feet or 4 legs in natural wood and a polypropylene shell in neutral colours, but also pastel colours or covered in fabric in a well-thought-out colour scheme.

The dimensions of Scandinavian style armchairs are standard, but preference is given to models that are not too large, not too voluminous, respecting the canons of essentiality and linearity. Yet designers do not let their creativity rest. It is precisely in the search for the finest wood and Made in Italy craftsmanship that the most ambitious challenge lies. In the countries of Southern Europe, Scandinavian style is also finding its way not only into home environments, but also into locations open to the public.
