Martinelli Luce: the beginning of an innovative brand

The story of Martinelli Luce starts from its founder, Elio Martinelli, who, after his specialization in scenography from the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, begins to collaborate with a company in Lucca to design the lighting of public places. From here he becomes more and more aware of the importance that light has in the definition of an environment. So, to fill a gap in the market and indulge his creativity, he founded a brand to create lamps that are inspired by nature.

The history of Pipistrello lamp

This lamp is an invention of the visionary designer Gae Aulenti and it is characterized by clear Art Nouveau lines. It was made for Martinelli Luce in 1965. The lamp was initially designed for the Olivetti store in Paris and only later put into production. It is characterized by the shape of the diffuser that recalls the wings of the animal it bears the name of. It is still produced today and maintains its versatility which makes it suitable for any environment and any decor. The lamp is made with absolutely innovative molding techniques for the time it was designed. Pipistrello is found in different formats, developed over time, and has a white opal methacrylate diffuser and a stainless steel telescope.
